Salzburg Airport
Salzburg Airport is Austria's largest regional airport. There is a correspondingly high level of activity on and off the tarmac. The first point of contact for departing and returning travellers is the car park, where there is a high volume of traffic around the clock. To ensure that all visitors have optimal lighting conditions regardless of the time of day, the car park has now been equipped with the RS PRO 5150 SC connected lighting solution from STEINEL. Previously, DALI luminaires were used that were integrated into a KNX control system via a gateway. However, this solution proved to be prone to errors, as the control system often failed and the KNX bus had to be repeatedly reset. This posed a significant challenge, especially in a 330-metre-long car park. This led to the desire for a more stable system that would still offer convenience and efficiency. However, alternative solutions would have meant a considerable amount of additional work. Therefore, the decision was made against a renewed combination of KNX and DALI control. With Connected Lighting, all luminaires are now networked via Bluetooth Mesh, enabling optimal and flexible lighting in the car park and taking into account individual lighting conditions.

Easy assembly and installation
The lights in the car park are installed using 5-pole through-wiring due to the length of the building. A control line, as with the previous DALI installation, is not necessary. With the help of the free STEINEL Connect app, the lights are connected to each other wirelessly via Bluetooth Mesh.

With the aim of significantly reducing energy consumption in the future while also having a reliable and low-maintenance lighting solution, Salzburg Airport opted for the Connected Lighting solution from STEINEL. Thanks to local light and presence sensors and Bluetooth networking, the sensor-switched LED lights only ever switch on when they are needed. This saves energy, reduces electricity costs and lowers CO2 emissions.

Bluetooth Mesh - pioneering technology
The use of Bluetooth mesh technology at Salzburg Airport enables efficient networking, which has proven to be particularly ideal for the long car park. Thanks to the mesh structure, communication between the luminaires remains stable over long distances, without the need for additional cabling. The Bluetooth SIG standards also guarantee future-proofing and reliability.
